About Us

Owner Bill Curtis started his career at 3M. He worked there for 10 years. During that time he finished two apprenticeships: one for Machinist, and the other in toolmaking.

In 1976, Bill started a shop in his garage where he worked alone for 1 year. With more work becoming available Bill was able to hire two young men from St Paul Vocational School (currently St Paul College). That system turned out to be a gem for VCM. Most of our employees since have come from the Machine tool program at St Paul College. The apprentices have become excellent toolmakers and loyal employees.

In 1979 VCM outgrew Bill’s garage shop and was moved to its current location between Stillwater and North St Paul Minnesota just off Hwy 36.
